School Supply Shopping

Mid-July kicks off the whole "Back to School" season! The crowds are almost as loony as they are at Christmas time.

Our school district keeps the supply list posted online all year, mainly for those who move into the area during the school year. In stead of taking advantage of this fact and getting the supplies throughout the summer, everyone waits, and waits, and waits some more. Next thing you know, school starts in two weeks. And of course, retailers never have enough of anything that's on the supply list at this time of the year.

"OMG, school starts in two weeks!!! What do we do?"

Everyone then converges on the nearest store to get their stuff, this is when the real "fun" begins. There are not enough supplies or open check-out counters to meet the needs of the people, which I think is intentional. The extra employees are watching everything going on via the security cameras, while sipping on their sodas, eating their popcorn, and getting a good giggle in every now and then. After all, this is better than a movie. It's got action, drama and suspense. Who's going to be the next person almost run over by a crazy-mad shopping cart?

School supply shopping should be an Olympic Sport, in my opinion. You need the speed of a runner in order to grab that last pack of colored pencils on the shelf without getting run over. The agility and dexterity of a gymnast to dodge the cart that is being pushed in your direction. Also, you need to be able to withstand a direct hit from one of the carts without crumbling to your knees in pain, and for that you need the strength and stability of a wrestler and football player combined.

Fortunately we have everything on the list for all three kids. We just have to dodge a few of the crazy-mad shopping carts for just a couple of things needed for the school clothes. Joy!

Ciao!
